Am I my brother’s keeper?”"YES! Today's verse is about whether or not we are to take care of others?! We can pass them by, whether at the workplace or even at church without giving them a second glance. I am speaking of those in our life who may be struggling, hurting in some way. If we take the time to look into their eyes, we may just see the hurt but the next question is the important one...  what do we do next?! Some will walk right on by while others will take the time to ask the question, how are you?! If we aren't willing to hear the answer, don't ask the question but if care about them, we will listen to the answer and help out in some way. It may simply be praying for them but it could be helping them along this thing called life. So, the answer to today's verse should be YES, but is it?! peace, tom

Today's Word is about rest for the weary and burdened. There are times when life gets so busy, so many appointments, so many things to get done, that we miss the occasions to sit back and rest. I got up early, grabbed my Bible and sat outside and just watched the sun rise. I didn't worry about what I had to do that day, or that week, or that month but simply sat back and enjoyed what God did everyday, a beautiful sunrise. There were too many days where I missed His sunrise but this day, I took it all in. I felt refreshed, renewed and ready to start my day. Too often we miss the occasions to sit back and rest a bit. Maybe today is your day to sit back for a moment or two and watch - simply watch. We will feel better about going and doing what He has called us to do! peace, tom

Today's verse is about seeking the peace of the Lord! It was supposed to be a routine first-aid call but when we got there, it was a chaotic scene. People shouting, some pushing others, some grabbing bats and coming to where the group was. Amid all the chaos, was the little boy who was hit by the car. Some people wanted to beat the driver, others wanted to just follow the crowd, no matter what. We had to defuse the situation and do it quickly before it got out of hand. Trying to find peace in a situation where tempers are flaring, where logic seems to go out the window, can be a little like putting toothpaste back in the tub - almost impossible. It can be done when we pursue peace above all. Calmer minds prevailed and we were able to get the little boy into the ambulance and on his way to the hospital. Never give up hope, that with Christ comes the peace that the world won't understand. Today's Word speaks of thorns and how they can choke things out! While playing a little backyard baseball with one of my grandsons, the ball got hit into my wife's rose garden. When he reached in to get the ball, he accidentally got pricked by one the thorns. He yelled out and cried, and for a moment or two, the fun we were having was over. In life, if we aren't careful, we can fall into the thorns of life. You know, the things that hurt us, the things that rob us of our joy. We need to be careful where we put our hands  and minds when it comes to living life. Thorns will choke out the life giving love of Jesus Christ if we allow ourselves to fall into the thorns of life. Let's make sure we look before we reach for something from this world without the protection of God's love. Be safe out there and look for the roses, not the thorns! peace, tom

Today's verse tells us that if Jesus sets us free, we will really be free. It was years ago that we had a parakeet. His name was Charlie and he had free reign to fly around the house. Each day, I would go and open his cage door so he could be free to fly around.  On the days when we had company coming over, I would make sure his cage door was closed. I could tell that he was sad that he had lost the freedom to fly around the house. When Jesus sets us free, the cage door of the sin, of our past, of our mistakes is open so that we don't have to go back into that kind of a life. We can overcome all those things, that keep us imprisoned, by the blood of Jesus. Today's Word speaks of freedom by Christ and not being subjected to sin again. The excitement within him grew with each step towards the park. He knew where we were headed and couldn't wait to get there. Once I took the leash off him, our dog Dee ran, and kept running around - and despite his age, he ran like a young pup. Here in the open field, he was free. Free to go where he wanted, free to run as fast as he could, or as slow as he wanted, he was free. When giving Jesus the Lordship of our life, we can be free. Free from the sin, free from the mistakes of our past life, free to live and live abundantly. Dee, never wanted to go back on the leash and we should never want to go back into the sin where Jesus has set us free. Let's never take freedom for granted and be thankful to God for freedom! peace, tom

You have anointed my head with oil;
My cup overflows."Is if half empty or half full? Today's verse tells us that God prepares a table before us where our cup will overflow! Half the year is over, and we start the second half of the year. Do we look at it as if half of our opportunities have passed us by or do we look at it as a new beginning. It all depends on what we focus on. There were times in the first half of the year where I failed, where I sinned, where my actions did not bring God glory - I can either focus on them or the fact that it's a new opportunity to see the glass overflowing - it always comes down to choice! I choose, that despite the year being half over, to see it as a new opportunity for growth, getting things right again with those I hurt, getting my relationship better with Christ. Today's verse teaches us what to do with the blessing of freedom - to serve one another through love. Those of us blessed to be born or live in the United States of America, have been given freedom that we sometimes take for granted. To be able to walk into a coffee shop with our bibles, to be able to celebrate on Sunday Mornings at our local churches, to be able to speak the name of Jesus in a restaurant as we pray with our waiter or waitress. We are told in God's Word that if Jesus has set us free, we must stand firm upon that freedom. Let us make the choice to stand firm upon the Rock of our Salvation, Jesus Christ and truly be free to serve one another in love. And never take that freedom for granted! peace, tom

Today's Word speaks to us about being a worker who is not ashamed of our work. Owning my own business meant I made the decisions. I had a choice each decision, to either keep the standard of excellence or try and cheat my way into a better deal. Most people would never see the short cuts, or the over pricing I could do but I would. I remember my dad teaching me to "work unto the Lord" which meant my decisions would bring Him glory or not. We all have the gift of choice. We can choose to be selfish, care more about ourselves than our fellow man, and the decisions we make will show just what we believe. Let's not be ashamed of the work we do or the worker we are by keeping focus on Him! Today's verse seems almost ridiculous, to consider it joy to face trials! As we continued to finish the project, we ran into trial after trial. Each time we tried a different solution, we ran into the same result, which wasn't getting the project completed. We needed to change our mindset and look at each trial as a new opportunity to learn not what to do. Our final attempt, after learning from each earlier mistake, made the difference, and the job was completed. In life, we will face those trials that will test us, to see whether we give up or try again, learning from our mistakes. Thank God, He doesn't hold our mistakes against us but allows us the forgiveness offered by the life and death of His Son. If your facing a trial, try and find the joy of Christ, in learning from the mistakes and challenge ourselves to keep on keeping on! peace, tom
